Volvo Car Group recently showcased the new 40-series concept cars which include the XC40 SUV and the S40 sedan.

Volvo has shown that the first car of the new number will be 40 small Volvo XC40 SUV based on the concept 40.1. The XC40 will go into production in 2017 and Mr. Mertens says the production version of the XC40 take a lot of similarities with the concept. The Volvo XC40 will compete against the BMW X1, Mercedes GLA and next Q2 Audi.
Speaking on the occasion to unveil the new cars of the 40 series, Peter Mertens, Senior VP of R & D, Volvo Car Group, said. "Cars Series 40 will be extremely important for India While the vehicle market premium in India is still relatively small, there is a huge potential for growth, especially in the segment of smaller SUV. " Håkan Samuelsson, President and CEO of Volvo Car Group, said. "A cousin smaller SUV was at the top of our wish list and also what our customers wanted," he added, "the concept 40.1 is very close to what the car will look like in reality. we will launch next year, so do not have much time to reinvent the wheel .
On the other hand, the Volvo S40, based on the concept 40.2, is a small luxury sedan that features a coupe like body design, with a high altitude. The XC40 and S40 will be based on the new platform Volvo Compact Modular Architecture (CMA). This platform is designed and developed to suit different types of engines, including plug-in hybrid and fully electric propulsion systems. Mr. Samuelsson, added: "The C segment is an important fast-growing segment of Volvo and one of the key elements in our plan for future growth."

Volvo also revealed that fully electric cars will provide a range of 350 km and will be revealed in 2019. The all electric cars will be supported by scalable Platform Product Architecture (SPA) Volvo. Volvo also plans to sell a million electric and hybrid cars in 2025. The new cars of the 40 series are aimed at "urban Millennials" as the company puts it.
The new CMA platform is developed by Volvo in collaboration with Geely Holding, the parent company possessing Chinese Volvo Car Group. This has led to profitability in terms of development and increased profitability. While Geely will use this platform for car manufacturing consumer in China, Volvo will use the platform of CMA only their premium small cars. Peter Mertens said, "The Chinese are very good when it comes to low-cost solutions and therefore engineering will be held in China. While they are very fast and agile, we are very good when it comes to technology. Hence propulsion systems, electrical architecture, information and entertainment systems, sensors and active safety systems will be developed by Volvo, "he said.

Volvo, the Swedish automaker recently introduced two new products in the segment of high-end small cars; the compact SUV XC40 and S40 premium sedan.
